CEMR 2012 in Cadiz: The General Assembly of European Municipalities and Regions

The General Assembly of European Municipalities and Regions took place in Cadiz, Spain, on September 26-28, 2012. The topics on the agenda included strategies to end the economic crisis, sustainable development, decentralization, and the integration of migrants. Local and regional leaders from all across the European Union discussed how pressing issues could be tackled from a local perspective, over the course of the three-day assembly.
Local European officials – mayors, presidents of regions, representatives of municipalities, and guest speakers – gathered in Cadiz, altogether some 700 people participated in this forum held every three years by the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR), which is made up of more than 50 national associations of cities and regions from 40 countries, or around 150,000 cities and regions.
